The Quest for Gold program is designed with the amateur athlete in mind. A program funded by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, it supports Ontario amateur athletes to reach the pinnacle of excellence in Canadian sport. This program establishes a high performance mindset for amateur athletes aiming to have more Ontario athletes on the national and international podiums. It directly provides financial assistance and enhanced coaching, training and competitive opportunities to Ontario amateur athletes who qualify under the sport-specific selection criteria.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Athletes must meet the minimum selection criteria set out by the Ministry in addition to the sport-specific selection criteria established by OCPSA (see below for details). If you qualify under the selection criteria, your name will be brought forward to the OCPSA Selection Committee. The top-ranked athletes, based on the criteria, will be awarded a card status for that upcoming year. Carding status is for 1 year starting April 1st of each year.
OCPSA SELECTION CRITERIA
OCPSA will allocate 4 cards in total (2 male, 2 female) and nominate 2 alternatives (1 male, 1 female). Athletes will be ranked in the following order:
- Confirmed members of Boccia Canada’s National Boccia Training Squad
- Athletes invited to participate in the National Squad training (as per Boccia Canada)
- Athletes who competed as part of Team Ontario at the Canadian Boccia Championships in March 2017
