Established in 1981 as a registered charitable, non-profit organization, the Ontario Cerebral Palsy Sports Association (OCPSA) was ignited by the very first provincial games to recognize competition for athletes within four disability groups, one being cerebral palsy. While the 1978 Ontario Games for the Physically Disabled were significant for the disability sports movement in Ontario, they were by no means a debut for Canadian athletes.

Canada gained notoriety on the world stage for the physically disabled with impressive showings at the Paralympics as early as 1968. Since then, Canada has excelled in Paralympic sport just as OCPSA has excelled in training, coaching and supporting Canada’s Paralympic and high performance athletes in the realm of Track and Field and Boccia.

Today, OCPSA is one of the leading amateur sports organizations in the province. We are a strong voice for people with cerebral palsy and all abilities. We promote interaction, empowerment and inclusion. We stimulate awareness and social change. We partner with like-minded groups at all levels to increase access to athletic programming. And most importantly, we advocate for and provide equal opportunity in sport and recreation, which enables persons with a disability to not only excel at all levels of competition, but also to build success in life through participation.

As a multi-faceted organization, OCPSA offers a full menu of sports development and sports education programs including: community sporting events and competitions; clinics and workshops; training and recreational camps; coach education; seminars and courses in classification and officiating; fielding and funding of teams for the Nationals and Provincials; hosting of Provincial Championships; and training, support and funding of elite athletes for the Paralympics. In addition, OCPSA sanctions sporting events for athletes within the cerebral palsy family in the Province of Ontario and develops and adapts sporting equipment which enables athletes with cerebral palsy to participate.
